Micropiles on the other hand are load bearing piles used to Retain Walls or Strengthen
foundations. The advantage of the equipment lies in its installation which is relatively
easy. Ideally, Tension and Compression tests and conducted on Micropiles once installed.
DBM executes Micropile projects using piles ranging from 100 millimeters to 300 millimeters
in diameter.
Underpinning
In order to understand the working of micropiles the concept of Underpinning needs
to be addressed first. Underpinning is usually executed when an existing construction’s
foundation begins to weaken. Though the processes may vary, it essentially involves
increasing the area of the foundation so it extends to more secure soil or redistributes
the foundation’s load over a larger area.
